Hi there,

I am trying to calculate how much substrate I need so I can decide which way to go (amazonia or DIY depending on cost) and need to know how deep everyone has their substrate.

I use a fairly deep substrate, about 3" to 3-1/2" in the front sloping upwards to the back about 4 to 5". Leaving lots of room for a good strong root system.

Mine is 3" on average, from 3.5" in the back/corners to 2.5" toward the front and middle.

I go with any where between 2"-4" depth. In my experience a lesser depth equals a better substrate.

I have about 3" to 4" and have good success with that. I have had as little as 1.5 inch, but that didn't work well. Of course other things changed besides the depth of the substrate. I picked the 3" to 4" because others here said it works well.
