how to keep shrimp from getting sucked up?

I've got a stocking right now over my intake to my hang on filter but it gets clogged up daily and therefore stops running. Is there some sponge or something I can get to put over top of it instead of stockings?

It has pictures of the filters Orlando is referring to. They work fantastic.

Here is what I do. You can see the brand new (white) one I put on today, and next to it a less noticable one that has been on for months. I use Aquaclear foam filter inserts and cut them to what I need it for.

i dont think the aquaclear foam insert is 100% shrimplet safe. I use the sponge prefilter and it clog up quite often too.

It works fine for Snowballs and RCS. Maybe with CRS it would be wiser to go with a filter that is finer, due to the lower numbers of offspring they have.
