I need help with my filter intake.

I don't want my shrimp to get sucked into the filter intake, but when I put a piece of sponge on it, it reduces the flow of the filter way too much. Maybe the sponge is too fine, but is there a better solution?

Please help!

I used a media bag with a bit of coarse media in it to keep it from fitting too closely to the intake and that has worked quite well. Having the bag held away from the intake prevents it from clogging so quickly. I used the Eheim ehfifix because I had it handy, but you could use just about anything to keep the bag from being drawn to tightly to the intake.
