Description: The H.O.T. Magnum is a compact, silent, and effecient canister filter. It provides mechanical and chemical filtration for aquariums up to 30 gallons. The Magnum has a self priming, bottom mounted sealed motor with a flow rate of 250gph. The filter is lightweight enough to hang directly on the back of the aquarium, and yet performs heavy duty, canister filtration. The two stage filter can quickly and easily convert from a continuous duty filter to a quick-clean micron water polisher.

Mechanical filtration is provided by the replaceable Rite-Sized Foam Sleeve. The foam sleeve is a dense, high porosity prefilter to trap dirt and debris. Chemical filtration is provided by a Carbon/Media Container packed with carbon to remove dissolved organic impurities.

The Magnum 350 easily converts from everyday 2-stage filtration to quick-clean polishing using the pleated Micron Cartridge. Ideal for quick-clean duty, the reusable Micron Cartridge has 320 square inches of surface area. It efficiently removes microscopic particles, eliminating the need for diatomagic powder. The H.O.T Magnum installs in minutes which makes it ideal for multiple aquarium water polishing. The snap lock and leak-proof connectors eliminate the need for hoses or tubing. The extra long, 8 foot line cord allows for multiple tank usage.

Specifications:
The filter includes a Rite-Size Foam Sleeve, Carbon/Media Container, Black Diamond Premium Activated Carbon, a reusable pleated Micron Cartridge, high-efficiency intake strainer, split-flow diffuser, snap-lock connectors, stainless steel hanger, and a cleaning brush.

Size:
Total Canister: 5" wide x 6" deep x 13 1/2" high.
External Canister: 4.5" deep.
Power Cord: 8 feet long

While this filter can be a bit noisy it is very functional. It is easily transferrable between tanks do to it\'s lack of hoses.

I use it mostly as a diatom filter with the included micron cartridge and the addition of diatom powder to clear up instances of green water. I usually takes 8-10 hours to rid my 75g of green water when used with diatom powder.

The included media chamber can hold carbon, or other media, in those cases (medication removal, etc) when carbon is desired and it is excellent for use as a temporary filter when you get a deal on a used tank :)

Marineland\'s specs say for use on tanks up to 30g but the flow rate is way to high in my opinion for a 30g. It is great for a 55g though.

The HOT Magnum filter has a better lid on it, but its size is inhibiting, the magnum 350 has a much better canister.. I'd say thats the downside to the HOT magnum.

The size is good, its relatively quiet. I use the micron cartridge, and I fill the remaining space with ceramic rings both inside the filter and outside. The flow is significantly reduced, but it provides tons of surface area, and I use it as a supplemental filter anyway.

The micron cartridge works just like the box claims, and removes all the debris in the water. You just have to wash it out every week or two. I think it probably functions somewhat like a biowheel also given the large surface area that it has.
