minimum hardness for nerites

Is there a minimum hardness required to keep nerites since they need the calcium and other minerals to build their shells? I got about 6 of them several months ago and they have been slowly dieing off. I keep German Blue Rams so my water is pretty soft (2-3 GH), so maybe they don't have enough calcium or something to live properly? Or is there something else they are particularly sensitive to? Thanks!
