All of I can think of would be to be sure the regulator is fitting securely with cylinder. Also, be sure the cylinder valve is opened all the way. If it's not, it will leak.
I know in my own tanks, I never get what I'm supposed to get (10# for 6 months, etc.). My 20# lasted about 8 months on a 29g and about 3 months on a 100g tank with dual ouputs.
