It is hard to go pass this beauty in terms of color and temperament.
He puts on a dazzling color display for me every night, (or is it
for the females?), will not touch a weed and feels absolutely at
home in my planted tank. Maybe it's because he has a harem of 4 females!
Can anyone guess the species?

Ok I'll bite, it looks like some sort of Gudgen to me. I am not sure how many species are out there.

It's an empire gudgeon, an Australian native.

I would guess the display is more for the ladies, unless they're really hungry and see you coming to feed them. LOL!
