Are there plants that remove large amounts of nitrates? Probably enough to cut back on water change to about once or twice every 2-3 months or so.

There are floater plants which help, such as red root floater, frog bit, etc. There is also hornwort and watersprite which are nitrate hogs.

The key to removing nitrates is using lots of fast growing plants. Most stem/bunch plants fall under this catagory.
