I have some ludwiga repens that is doing really well with lots of branching and healtly looking but on some them the bottom of the stem is black and soft and appears to be rotten. What is going on here is it due to lack of something or is it that it is getting shaded so much that it is not getting enough light Thanks

New2pints--you second assumption is correct; the bottom of the ludwigia is not getting enough light and is starting to rot.

Snip the health top part of the ludwigia from the rotting bottom and replant. You may want to prune some of the lower side shoots off as well; replant the sideshoots to get a whole new plant!
