i have this plant for a long time and always called it najas indica - is that it? i saw a pic that really looks the same in some asian site and it had another name - dont remember where...

Hi,

This is not Najas Indica. It looks more like Tonina sp from Manaus.

That is clearly not a Tonina species. Leaves are thinner and shoots come from every node. It's a Najas of some kind. May be indica, but I'm not sure.

I am not convinced that it is Najas Indica. Najas yes but indica I don't think so. :?
