Hi,

Some of my java ferns seem to have black spots on them, this isn't on the underside of the leaves but on the tops of them and I'm worried they aren't getting enough ferts. They do actually seem to pearl in my tank, but the black spots annoy me. Do you have any idea what they might be?

I only use a small amount of flourish, about 5ml per week, my tank is approx 100 litres. The substrate is flourite mix with gravel, I use a phosphate remover and a nitrate remover, my po4 is about 0.25mg/l and my nitrate is always at 5ppm.

Any thoughts or advice would be great.

Hi Neil.

The black spots are normal and also the place where your new little plantlets will form.
