hi all,

im relatively new to this, just wanted a bit of advice

I have just recently bought a piece of mopani root for my 80l tank, and was wondering how i would go about planting java fern/moss into it? i already have an abundance of moss growing on the ferns.

any advice would be greatly appreciated =]

I've used black thread, or rubber bands to hold it on until it attaches itself. The rubber bands fall off after a while and by then it should be attached anyway. The java fern doesn't really like to attach to smooth surfaces, though, preferring some texture it can grab on to.

thanks a lot vancat, can the java moss simply be pulled off the fern and then tied to the wood?

and how long does it take before it attaches?

depending on how well it likes the wood....you'll know in a few weeks if it's gonna stick. But leave the ties on for a while longer, just to make sure.

I don't have much experience with java moss....I don't think that will eventually attach on its own like the fern.

Java moss will almost attach to most anything, I have seen it growing on filters aquarium walls. You name it this stuff will grow on it.
