Planting HC for carpet

Is there any special way to plant HC so that it grows as a carpet? I thought I read someone just sort of weighs it down in strategic areas with gravel.

High light and good CO2/nutrients makes it grow into a dense carpet that hugs the ground.

If these basic needs aren't met it won't really form a nice looking carpet on a permanent basis.
I understand that and I have those perameters...

...I just need to know how to physically put it in the substrate.
Just plant small clumps so just a little of the leaves are sticking out the gravel. You may need a tweezer. The smaller the clumps you plant the better.
