I have a carpet of pearlweed in my tank (bought it from a LFS as Dwarf baby tears, and I was a bit sour when i found out it wasn't, but it worked out ok) and haven't had any issues with it in the 1st 2 months of tank life, until I added some platys. Now I'm finding bare stems in patches, and a lot of the leaves up against the intake of the powerhead in the tank. I hadn't heard anything about platys tearing up plants, anyone else seen this behavior? It only seems to be the pearlweed at the moment.

Livebearers in general like to nibble on leaves - eating algae/biofilm of them. Also I often see them eating pieces of dead or dying leaves. Is your pearlweed healthy? I can imagine that small and fragile and/or dying leaves get easily dislodged by sometimes more rough nibbling. I have no experience with pearlweed, but if it has delicate leaves, this would explain your observations.

Btw. they love to eat roots of floating plants too. :)
