Howdy everyone,
I am using PPS method for fertilizing my tank. I have several chain sword plants that are not doing too well. Should I add fertilizing tabs to the substrate? I've read/heard that sword plants do better with fertilizers from the substrate. I don't want green water, so I'm wondering would this be too many ferts? I also dose with Flourish Excel to help keep the algae at bay and use diy Co2. I have plenty of lights in my 20 gallon long tank. Its a T-5 double linear strip light by Coralife. Thanks, Sue

Hi Flora!

I would go ahead an add the root tabs. Poor substrate nutrition never allows for healthy plants, regardless of how much you dose PPS. This is especially true for plants that would naturally develop large root systems (like swords, big or small).

Place the tab by a cluster of your chain swords about an inch under the substrate by the root system. Don't overdo it! Try using one tab per four square inches of substrate; this should be enough.
