I noticed that many people have drift wood that is partly above the surface of the water in their aquascapes. But how do you prevent it from moulding?

I have wood mold all the time...but I collect all of my wood, and most often it's softer woods like pine or cottonwood. There is usually an initial white/clear mold or fungus that tends to leach out, and otos can sometimes keep that in check, or an occasional scrubbing. Sometimes certain pieces never seem to fully purge themselves of die off and whatnot, so I just take them out and put something else in there. This is all deaing with fully submerged pieces. I have never experienced it with the parts of wood that aren't actually in the water, so I wouldn't really worry about it.
