Hi,

I have an Angelfish that has not eaten for about 5 days (that I have seen)
Someone told me that he might have a tummy ache and/or constipation. They suggested that I dose the aquarium with Aquarium Salt as a general remedy.
Would it be ok to do that in a planted tank? I don't want to hurt my plants.

Thank you,
Steph

I have never done it myself but I have heard that salt will kill plants fairly quickly. Do you have another tank that you could quarantine him in?

Unfortunately no, the only other small tank I have has my angel fry in it and my 75 gallon is not up and running yet. :(

I dont know much about angels, but I have had bettas go up to two weeks without eating. If it were me I would probably do a water change and see if I could interest him in some frozen bloodworms or live brine shrimp. Again, I dont know much about angels so you might want to wait and get advice from someone else.

Hi missphnx. I would agree with Sir_ about the eating thing. If you feel he is actually sick and in need of attention, I would quarantine him. A 10 gallon is only $10 and you probably already have a air pump and iarstone or corner filter. If not they are fairly cheap. That, of course depends on the size of your angel. In all that might e cheaper than the angel too. Besides, it never hurts to have a spare 10 gallon around:)

Also, some plants are fine wiht some salt. Bacopa, java fern and moss, ludwiga and some others all come to mind. What kind of plants do you have? You also might try a post in the "fish for aquariums" section. There are soime very knowledgable fish folkes here.
