Why do you need to remove two? Are these a pair that has formed are are you just thinking thinning the numbers down will reduce territoriality?

If you're removing a formed pair I'd use a divder to separate the tank with the pair on one side so that you can quickly remove the pair.

If you're looking to remove two to thin the numbers I wouldn't! I had 4 wild angels and when a pair formed they eliminated one spare before I knew what was happening and I had to resuce the other spare and nurse it back to health! You want to keep them in shoals in larger tanks if you can. Remember these are cichlids and if they want to breed a pair will try and carve themselves a little territory to do so. In nature they would find that space when the forests flood in the wet season and they'd have a huge amount of room - but they don't get that in our tanks. My pair of wild angels now have a 180l tank with no other angels!

I don't think a 46 g is large enough for 6 angels. AND they are picking on each other although no harma has been done yet.
Did i understand you right? When you removed a pair, the others started "elininating" another one.

I'd agree with you about a 46g tank not being big enough, but you don't want a group of less than 6 IMHO.

I only bought 4 and once they matured the pair eliminated one of the spares. There had been little aggression up until then. The pair have been peaceful ever since (thought they haven't spawned yet :frusty

I'd wait for a pair to form then remove the spare 4 and leave the pair in the 46g. You can put other fish in with them, just no other angels or things that are small enough to eat.
