Description: Appropriate for every size aquarium (2 - 60 gallon), they provide the three types of filtration that your aquarium needs:

Mechanical Filtration -- To remove particles such as uneaten food, bits of plants, fish waste, etc., from the water

Biological Filtration -- To provide for the growth of a colony of beneficial bacteria that will eliminate harmful toxins in the water

Chemical Filtration -- Activated carbon removes compounds that cause odors and discoloration of the water

Designed for ease of use, Whisper® Power Filters use Bio-Bag® filter cartridges for mechanical and chemical filtration. The disposable Bio-Bag®s remove waste particles, discoloration and odors from aquarium water. Bio-Bag®s are easy to change, making it easy to maintain clear aquarium water.

It took me several years of running one of these to realize the following:

These filters advertise that they have three stage filtration but this is pretty much crap. The bio-bag filter cartridge offers about a half an inch of filtration and a smattering of carbon- which depending on your views on carbon you may not even want. Also, these bio-bags are designed to be thrown out during maintenance (which is actually recommended by the company), and pretty much means you throw away your whole bacteria colony in the process. In this respect, the Hagen Aquaclear filters are better.
