I have two natural planted aquariums. A forty gallon and a thirty gallon. I have some livebearers in both. They live bearers in the forty have stopped producing offspring and the ones in the thirty never did. I have had some wasting and a few deaths. I've noticed the wasting in the LFS where I purchased the fish. Naturally I suspect mycobacterium. I purchased two Aquatop hang on back UV filters hoping this would rid my tanks of this problem. Now I read that they do not have the power or capacity to effectively combat the bacteria, and are merely for destroying green water. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm sad that I just spent the money on it, and disappointed at my lack of research. Is there any hope for my fish with these filters?

I use 'Green Killing Machine' UV and it works wonders on bacterias and green water. It takes about 1 week to clean up bacteria or green water completely. :) Beautiful tank, by the way. It will only clean what is in the water column, not what may be on plants or substrate. You will need to get it in the water column so it can be picked up. If you have a very bad infestation, it will help, but you may not be able to get it all cleaned out without removing/replacing plants or substrate. More than likely you will need to use antibiotics. If you can't do that, then you may need to completely tear down the tank, replace substrate, etc., and put the fish with same water in a bucket/tank with the uv light to clean that water you saved. I have a sad face....
