Does B. heudelotii grow anywhere off the continent of Africa? Any African islands?

Not that I'm aware of...

I thought it was restricted solely to west Africa.

Nope, found in "Tropical and Subtropical Africa, from Ethiopia West to Senegal and South to Northern South Africa."
