I am a newbie and I have been watching these plants loose their leaves and then the stems turn brown and then to mush.... some times new growth starts from the brown mushy stems but when the stem dies so does the growth...

I have had the heat high (83 deg f) for my angel fish and have turned it down (72 deg f) about a month ago and the plants still die off...? I have just aquired a Hagen C02 system I have been using Plant grow by Nutrafin

I have a sand gravel mix for my substrate I have made my own canopy I have 2 20watt aquarium grow lights. I have a fluval 205 filter and the tank size is 40 gallons.

I have had good luck with Java Fern and have just aquired a few other plants, christmas tree moss and window fern

any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks
Randy

I could be wrong, but those plants are non-aquatic. They look like miscellaneous tropical house-plants.

Wow that would explain a lot.... I bought them from an aquaruim/pet store but that means little.... I should try to take them out of the water and see how they do in the air.... thanks Dave

Hey Randy, first off, welcome to apc! Yeah, they're not aquatic. It's very common for pet stores to stock and sell these. Unfortunately, many don't know squat about plants and how to grow them properly.

Welcome, glad you're here! At least you have some pretty house plants :)

The worst thing about pet stores selling non-aquatic plants is that newbies don't succeed and give up on planted tanks.
