I'm in the middle of redoing my 55 gal. tank. When I uprooted my Swords, Crypts and Anubias, I couldn't believe the size of the roots! I can't see how I could replant them with that mass of roots and still try to keep any kind of layout intact. Is it alright to trim the roots and if so by how much? I'm hoping I can trim off like half the roots to make planting easier. What do you do?

Steve,

Yes, you can certainly trim your roots. If I have a large plant like that, I typically take a pair of scissors and just slice them all off about 2 or 3 inches from the base of the plant. They will take a little while to get going again, but it won't be long!
