Hi - I'm new to this discussion group, joined at the suggestion of Vivarium Concepts. I had salt and freshwater aquariums for years, but not recently, and never even knew the names of the plants I stuck in there, so I am really an aquarium plant newbie.

Just put in a 90 gallon freshwater community tank, and I am looking for some place in North Dallas or Plano or Garland (or even the mid-cities) where I can get some nice live plants for this tank - plants that don't require "SuperLights" to do well. (I have a 5 pin 6750 and a Maxicolor.) LFSs that I have visited don't seem to have many live plants for sale. Know of a source up this way?

I have a very pretty and healthy Water Sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroides?) in my new 90 gallon tank and the fish love it - and I would like to buy more Water Sprite plants. They seem to grow well without 'SuperLights', and don't mind being jerked up periodically by rowdy fish. QUESTION: Does anyone know where I can buy more Water Sprites?

AND are there other specific plants like W.S. that don't mind being pulled up, and which do well without their roots submerged in substrate? (For example, they need to do OK with roots wedged between rocks.)

Aside from wanting plants for my 90 gallon tropical tank, I am putting in a 3500 gallon above-ground pond and plan to move my 12 large koi from the farm to Dallas very soon, while they are still semi-hibernating. These koi have never been destructive with water lilies or other pot-rooted plants .... and I definitely want to put some lilies and other potted plants in the new pond .... but I don't want to run the risk of importing diseases to my koi (most of which are 10 years old or older, raised since babyhood). The big pond supply stores in Dallas seem to be very commercial, just the sort of place where you could get diseases. Anyone know of a good safe source for water plants for ponds, here in the Dallas area? Many thanks!

Come to our DFWAPC plant club meeting. Just keep an eye out on this thread. We will be having one in February soon. We trade plants so there are always some for free. Some of our members have ponds as well so they may be a source of Nymphaea for you.
