I have a nano reef (5 gallon) and it's only occupant right now is a mantis shrimp and 3 live rocks with some sand.

That is all I need for a reef tank although it is tempting to go and buy much much more but the 5 gallon is good enough to remind myself that it is only for the shrimp.

My nanoreefs currently my only tank (working on that one) it was the one that moved with me easily.

Gotta say the 2.5g is about the easiest tank I've owned to maintain; until last week all I did 'daily' was top off for evap and feed. Now I have an auto top off, so my maintenance is down to: feed; 2x 2L water changes, refill the auto top off once a week, scrub the glass and enjoy.

For those who think a nanoreef is too hard to maintain - i'd like to point out that I don't need a skimmer, calc reactor or any of that high zoot wizardry. Calcium / Alk / pH starts to drop - simple solution 25% water change (2 litres) and everythings back to normal.

Hi, I'm Phil and I'm a nanoreeferholic.

10g

That tank was photographed on its 6 month birthday. Don't let those folks fool ya! If you can keep a planted tank [almost] algae free for 6 months you can keep a reef with NO problems. It's just a little more expensive, that's all. Oh, and zero N and P is a good thing (?, yeah, I know it gets me too. :D )

Art,

Thank you! I use Kalkwasser in my topoff to maintain Alk and Ca, plus a liberal dosing of AragaMilk to encourage the coralline. AM's not good for anything else but that. :)

Yep, that's a Montipora capricornis in there along with some other Monti species, Acropora spp., a green Hammer, some Zooanthid spp., and little clump or two of GSP. Pretty soon all that's going into a 20g in my livingroom that cycling right now. There's nothing like an upgrade! :)

Great Phil!

My wife is letting me move my 65g SPS-2-B from my laundry room (don't ask! ) to our bedroom. The one condition is its got to be quiet. I'm working on redoing the plumbing and getting a new calcium reactor. I'll post pics when I'm done.
