Do bristlenose dig in preparation for breeding?
They can do depending on the location they choose to breed. Although dig isn't really the right word, mine sort of used their caudal fin to blow some sand out from under the bogwood they used. Can you see a male inside a nearby cave?

Ed seeley, spot on.
I had a closer look.
Behind the mound of gravel is some driftwood that has been dug out to make
a cave. There was a bristlenose there but female. No eggs yet.
I presume she is preparing for breeding.
Pitty in a way as the fry will not survive with all the other fish there.

You might be surprised! Mine bred in a community tank and some of the babies survived by hiding behind rockwork. Otherwise give them a cave you can easily move out and when they spawn lift the cave into a spare tank or breeding net.
