OK, I've never had problems with my current fish eating plants but since I added Rotala Wallichii to my tank someone has been eating it constantly. I've ruled out the MTS as the problem has gotten a little better since I placed some ludwigia all around the plant to make a sort of barrier. I have an anglefish, loaches, cardinals, small rainbows, ancistrus, ottos and SAEs. I don't think the angelfish can fit where the rotala is but anything is possible.... Before I get the BB gun out and start playing russian roulette, any idea who might be responsible? Or who to rule out?

Siamese Algae Eaters will wipe out your entire collection of R. wallichii, Mayaca and other fine species in matter of time. Can you live without SAE or without R. wallichii ?. Choice is yours.

They didn't touch the Mayaca but I ended up throwing it out anyway. That's not an easy decision to take Jay, I was hoping you would tell me it's someone else... they are not easy to catch either
I'll bring the SAEs to the office tank and see how the wallichii does, two of the SAEs are fully grown anyway and would probably be better off in the larger tank. I don't think I have anything in the office tank that they would eat.

My SAE tore appart my Wallichii...I tossed the plant

But I don't know what I will do if the SAE starts to attack my moss!!!

My Rams were eating my moss, couldn't figure out why I was having problems growing the stuff until I got rid of them

Hi Giancarlo!

The rams were probably not eating the moss, but the goodies that were living on it. Moss harbors alot of microfauna and rams will "pick" consantly at them. They like to root around in Riccia as well...

I would blame the SAE's too, mine ate all my christmass moss !!!!!!!!!!!

I really like mine and he hasn't bothered any of my plants. I want to add some more of them soon.

IME, SAEs are useful and charming when young. Once they get beyond 4 inches though, they became a nuisance. They ate my moss, my Rotala wallichii, and shredded my Lagarosiphon madagascariensis.
