I like to grab a gang of these critters for my 55 gallon tank. they'll have a ball to, since it has several snails for them to snack on. anyone happen to have these, where shipping is not a monster, or know a good local source to get them, in Waldorf, MD area? Thanks!

I don't know what level you consider "monster" for shipping charges, but AquariumFish.net has the dwarf puffers for $5.50 each, plus $24.95 for shipping, no matter how many fish you get. If you can't find them elsewhere, you might give them a try. I've never dealt with this company, so I can't vouch for it, but they do have them for what seems to be a reasonable price.

I picked one up @ Walmart, $3.88, he's in my 75 gal tank that had a real bad snail problem...NOT any more. He's a small 1 1/2 inch dude, have no problem with fin nippen. He or she gets along well with tank mates, 5 Discus, 50 neons, and a assortment on scavengers. Little Dude (his name) is very friendly, an comes to thr front of the tank at feeding time, loves the live worms the discus eat. Good luck, an check out Wally World the store here has them all the time......

I loved my little belly when i had him. He of course was a dwarf puffer. I have a couple words of advice for you when it comes to these great fish.

1) Frozen bloodworms is a must. DP's love the bloodworms and it's a good thing for their diet.
2) Snails are a good thing to supplement them with, though if you have any snails in your tank be ready to have none
3) When feeding comes, if feeding food you can pinch between your fingers, let your DP's eat the food from between your fingers, it will make them more friendly to you.
