Can anyone tell me if they have ever used an aquarium with an overflow for a planted tank? I believe I have heard that the overflow and oxygen exchange will affect the CO2. Is this true?

I have an Eheim 2128 below a 6x6 overflow on a 24" tank. Even if I use a little more CO2 I gain in only risking 4 gallons of water on my floor rather than potentially 120 gallons if a hose breaks. Also, the overflow box obviates the additional use of a "surface extractor".
I have a wet/dry filter with overflow on my 100g. I use a ph controller for CO2. My 10lb tank lasts about 7-8 months for me, long enough that I don't worry about any additional CO2 loss with overflow.
